| Moscow is the city to be visited. It is one of the most ancient and most mesmerising cities in the world. Moscow boasts a long and dramatic history. The city has been completely destructed and rebuilt anew several times throughout the centuries. Each time Moscow was resurrected from ashes, it became detailed and further gorgeous. For every rebuilding, the most gifted and famous architects were invited from all over the world to restore Moscow. Therefore, Moscow sights are really well worth seeing. These days Moscow is the city where the old and the new, the great and the small exist side by side in mutual tolerance and respect. Close to ancient monasteries and cathedrals, there tower above ultramodern shopping malls and skyscrapers. But, first and foremost, Moscow is the centre of Russia's history.
Red Square - the symbol of the metropolis - is the most renowned city square in Moscow and, probably, one of the most famous in the world. The square separates the Kremlin, which used to be the royal citadel and is now the official residence of the President of Russia, from a historic trading part called Kitai-gorod. Because major Moscow streets run from here in all directions, Red Square is ordinarily considered the central square of Moscow and of all Russia.
Resurrection Gate is known as the only existing gate of the Kitai-gorod in Moscow. It joins the north-western end of Red Square with Manege Square and gives its name to Voskresenskaya Square (also known as Resurrection Square) located nearby. Just in front of the chapel there is a bronze plaque marking kilometre zero of the Russian highway system.
Alexander Garden is one of Moscow's first public parks. It spans along the western Kremlin wall in front of the Moscow Manege.
The State Historical Museum of Russia is a museum of Russia's history situated between Red Square and Manege Square. There are displays of remnants of the prehistoric people that inhabited present-day Russia as well as valuable works of art acquired by the Romanovs. The total number of works of art in the collection exhibited in the museum averages out at millions.
Moscow is said to exhaust you before you exhaust its possibilities. |
